There are some great walks along both sides of the Karangahake Gorge where we stopped for our picnic lunch. Gold was mined here and the path took us through old mine tunnels which were pitch black inside. Fortunately we were just behind someone who had a torch! The rope bridges and narrow, unfenced paths made Margaret a little cautious but we made it back safely.
