I cannot begin to express how fantastic today was. The scenery as we drove the length of lake Wakatipu was amazing but nothing compared to the source of the Dart river - deep into Lord of the Rings territory. We walked through the forests used in the filming and saw the amazing tree shapes looking ready to walk and speak to us. The let boat took up far up the river to the waterfalls which provide the water for the huge lake. It is a very wide braided river, only inches deep in places, which can only be traversed by specially adapted let boats. They travel and spin very fast, giving a thrilling ride.
